Choolwe Laina Muntanga

Untitled design (56)

Choolwe is 19 years old and is from Pontefract, West Yorkshire. She trained in dance and musical theatre at CAPA College in Wakefield before moving to London to study at Urdang and now at Arts Ed. Choolwe applied to One Dance UK’s Young Creatives programme in 2019 after being inspired by choreographers such as Botis Seva and Joseph Toonga, and their convention-breaking approaches to making dance. Choolwe likes to explore her background and heritage as a black African female, fusing African dance styles with contemporary dance and other genres. Choolwe completed 2 years on the Young Creatives programme, culminating in the creation of her own screen dance piece.

Three short films by Choolwe, alongside Tassia Sissins and Abi Sheridan will be shown at Dance Futures as part of One Dance UK’s Young Creatives.
