Georgia Cooper

Untitled design (42)

Georgia Cooper is a BACP Registered Relational Psychotherapist and DDP Institute Certified Practitioner. She initially studied art, with her background being in creative arts workshops for young people. She designed costumes for dance for NSCD, Pheonix Dance and other before qualifying as a psychotherapist in 2002. She then took up the role of student counsellor at NSDC (leaving the costume making to other people!) She has provided therapeutic support to dancers in training for almost 20 years now, and has in-depth knowledge of the stresses and strains an elite level training environment can bring. During her time there she developed a keen interest in the link between mind and body wellness, which has coincided with developments in neuro science that now enable us to understand this link in much greater detail. Georgia says: “The mind & body are so connected, it is impossible for us to experience emotional pain without it having an impact on our body and it is impossible to experience bodily injury or illness without our body having an emotional response.  These areas remain a keen interest to me both in my work with dancers and my private clinical work.”

She has further training in Eating Disorders, Neuro Diversity, Trauma and Attachment based Family Therapy, and outside of NSCD has a clinic in North Leeds working with; adoptive families, young adults and children with complex trauma, parents wanting support and adult clients. She still runs art workshops when she can.

Georgia will be leading the Wellbeing and Mental health for Young People (everyone) session alongside  Kathy Williams OLY, Mohammed Saeed and two One Dance UK ambassadors.
