Yorkshire Dance joins the Dementia Action Alliance
Wed 13 September 2017We are thrilled to join over 150 national organisations across England as part of the Dementia Action Alliance, who connect, share best practice and take action on dementia.
As a member of the alliance, we are provided with tools to ensure we are equipped to respond to the needs of people living with dementia. This includes access to a network of health and social care professionals, opportunity to connect with other alliance organisations, and access to webinars and podcasts. The Dementia Action Alliance can actively influence Government policy and societal attitudes and can campaign on the major issues in health and social care relating to people with dementia. This active approach is certainly reflected in some of our projects such as Dancing in Time, a falls prevention and research project for older adults.
As an alliance member, we have outlined an action plan which pledges to:
- make visible our commitment to being a dementia friendly organisation through clear Dementia Friendly signposting and staff wearing Dementia Friends badges.
- continue to work with volunteers who can provide additional support for those living with dementia and their carers to access and participate in our activities
- review and update our Older Adults’ Policy to ensure that dementia awareness is embedded at a policy level and deliver in-house Dementia Friends information sessions.
We are pleased to have accomplished a number of actions already, such as updating our signage around our building and including symbols as a visual aid to ensure easier navigation, and updating our font and marketing material to ensure clearer communication and readability.
We are looking forward to being part of the Dementia Action Alliance!
