Yorkshire Dance receives Silver Award for Investors in the Environment
Thu 31 May 2018Two years ago, Yorkshire Dance started working alongside national environmental accreditation scheme ‘Investors in the Environment’ (IiE). The scheme is designed to help organisations save both time and money, but most importantly reduce their impact on the environment.
As cited in the Yorkshire Dance Environmental Policy “Yorkshire Dance aims to ensure that it carries out all its work with minimal impact on the environment.” Working with IiE allows us to set achievable “eco” targets and establish a path of continual improvement to demonstrate that we are upholding this policy.
After achieving the Bronze Award in January 2017, we quickly started working towards the Silver Award. Here are a few examples of what we did:
• Replaced the light fittings in our studios and changing rooms to LEDs.
• Upgraded one of our boilers to a newer model which works more efficiently.
• Stopped printing tickets for performance events; we are hoping to go electronic with tickets in the near future.
• Organised a vegetarian feast with visiting artists, tenants and neighbours in order to raise awareness of food carbon emissions.
In April 2018, we found out that we’d done enough to earn our Silver Award!
Callum (Admin Assistant) and Lauren (Facilities Manager) will be attending the IiE Awards Ceremony in June to collect our framed award.
