What’s new with our Street Crew?
Wed 22 January 2020Part of: Saturday Superstars
Yorkshire Dance’s Street Crew meet at Yorkshire Dance every week to develop dance skills with their tutors Bobak Walker and Jemma Broomhead. Bobak and Jemma, our dedicated street tutors, have been part of the Saturday Superstars team for over 6 years. Alongside teaching, they also perform regularly, meaning they are always on top of the freshest street dance trends and events.
At the end of November, the Street Crew had the exciting opportunity to show off their skills to a packed audience, as a curtain raiser for Breaking Tradition’s performance of ‘The Lock In Christmas Carol’ at Barnsley Civic. Their performance (yet to be named) explores ideas of extra-terrestrial life through movement and some very unique costumes! The Crew are continuing to rehearse their performance and are hoping to be selected to perform at a youth dance platform in the region in the next couple of months.
As well as delivering mind blowing performances, the Street Crew are playing a key role in our upcoming Family Encounters festival on the 29th February and 1st March. Three of the dancers, Gabriella, Isaac and Eva (aged 11-14), will be delivering a street dance workshop to share their skills with adults, flipping the normal approach of grown-ups teaching young people on its head! During this one hour session the Crew will be teaching the very latest, greatest and dare we say it ‘coolest’ moves.
You can find out more about this class, including how to book a place here, or by calling us on 0113 243 9867. We hope to see you there!
At Family Encounters, you will also be able to watch the specially curated Short Dance Film Screening. We will be presenting four dance films which have been carefully chosen by our film selection panel of four dancers from the Crew; Sylvie, Jaikaila, Malvern and Nahom. The platform will be running throughout the day on the 29th February, so come along any time from 10am – 4pm to enjoy the selected films.
