We’re very excited to be off to Hull as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, celebrating 50 years since the start of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.

As part of LGBT 50, a week-long programme of LGBT+ events taking place from 22 to 29 July in partnership with Pride in Hull, we’re contributing to the lively Duckie Summer Tea Party in Queen Victoria Square, to which everyone’s invited for a thrilling afternoon of dance, surprise performances, tea, cake and much more.

The party features Into The Light, a specially commissioned Yorkshire Dance production by choreographer Gary Clarke, featuring a 50-strong cast for the 50th anniversary – 42 non-professional performers from among Hull and the East Riding’s LGBT+ community and its friends will work alongside 8 professional dancers.

Gary and TC Howard will be in Hull a lot between now and the performance in July, to meet with members of the LGBT+ community to hear of their stories and share ideas. There will be a number of ways people can get involved, through simply turning up for a chat, volunteering, dipping their toes in with a taster workshop or signing up for the final performance.

If you’re one of those people who might be interested in taking part, let us know by e-mailing kirstyredhead@yorkshiredance.com and we’ll send you details of when and where you can join in.
