AGELESS FESTIVAL: Call for Proposals

Yorkshire Dance is interested in discovering new work, ideas and proposals which reimagine age through dance.

Ageless is a festival presented by Yorkshire Dance in collaboration with local, regional and national partners. The first Ageless Festival took place in Leeds in 2019 and brought together a range of professional artists, local communities and wider audiences to watch, and take part in activity that reimagined age through dance.

The success of the first Ageless Festival, created an appetite for more, and therefore we are excited to announce the second iteration of Ageless Festival (date TBC – late June/early July 2022).

We have identified 5 themes below which we invite you to provide artistic and research proposals against. We welcome responses from individual artists, researchers or groups and your proposal can take any form (e.g. films, talks, performances and workshops.)

Please give an outline of costs within your proposal. We have a modest festival budget so it’s incredibly useful to understand what resource you need.

Themes to respond to:

  1. The Political Act of Dancing – Ageing and Body Politics
  2. The art and act of remembering
  3. Dancing against the norm – work which doesn’t conform
  4. Boundary Crossing and collaborative practices
  5. Intergenerational Practice – dancing across ages

Please respond no later than midday on Monday 1st November 2021 with a short written proposal (no more than 200 words) and any accompanying footage (e.g. film, photography).

Please send this via email to Hannah Robertshaw (hannahrobertshaw@yorkshiredance.com) with the subject line AGELESS FESTIVAL.  You may have to send any photos or video footage via We Transfer.

If you would like to tell us about your idea in a different way, please contact Hannah. This could include sending us a short video or voice recording if this is your preferred way of applying.

NOTE: We will work between November 2021 and February 2022 to make sense of all proposals and put the festival programme together. We might be in touch with follow up questions to better understand your proposal.
