In your daily life at home and outside, do you think a lot about how your body moves?

Yorkshire Dance is particularly interested in seeking people with a physical disability or mobility impairment to attend 2 introductory workshops facilitated by internationally acclaimed Dutch-German choreographer Katja Heitmann (see dates below).

In partnership with Leeds Art Gallery and Yorkshire Dance, Katja is creating a new version of her Motus Mori archive of movement with people in Leeds who have a heightened awareness of how they move because of age or physical condition. You are invited to experience how our bodies hold deep knowledge of our memories and emotions in this moving, intimate performance of slowed-down gestures.

In workshops and rehearsals, Katja will invite you to share your everyday movements with other participants and work toward a special performance at Leeds Art Gallery in December 2023.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome people aged 8-108 who are interested in exploring how their body moves because of age, or physical condition. No previous dance experience is required. We are particularly interested in people who have a physical disability or a mobility impairment.

If you would like to be involved in Motus Mori: Corpus at Leeds Art gallery, then we invite you to join an introductory workshop at Yorkshire Dance.

All sessions are FREE to attend.

Where and when are the workshops?

Introduction Workshops will take place at Yorkshire Dance with a 45 minute break and a vegetarian lunch provided. The workshops will be split into 2 groups

Group 1:

Thursday September 21 2023, 10:30am-2:15pm

Friday September 22 2023, 10:30am-2:15pm

Group 2:

Saturday September 23 2023, 10:30am-2:15pm

Sunday September 24 2023, 10:30am-2:15pm

Rehearsals

There will then be approximately 8 rehearsals to attend ahead of the 4 performances. Rehearsals will be held at Leeds Art Gallery between the 20 November 2023 to 6 December 2023 (Days and times TBC)

Performances

Performances will take place on the 7, 8, 9 and 10 December 2023 at Leeds Art Gallery. Each performance will last 30 minutes with two performances per day (Times TBC)
