GaiaGonnelli_Mappamondo website

Volunteering Dates: Friday 28th February, Saturday 29th February, and Sunday 1st March 2020

We’re seeking 14 enthusiastic volunteers to support our Family Encounters Festival.

Volunteers will do 4-5 hour shift/s (those who do 5 hour shifts will be allocated a 30min break) and will be based at Yorkshire Dance, 3 St Peter’s Buildings, St Peter’s Square, Leeds, LS9 8AH. This is opposite from the BBC building in Leeds city centre, and is a 2-min walk away from Leeds Bus Station.

You will be part of a team of volunteers helping in the smooth running of the Family Encounters Festival. Tasks include:

  • Ushering in performances
  • Guiding attendees to different parts of the festival
  • Serving food and drink
  • Supporting children’s activities (e.g. craft activities)
  • Building set up and get out (this may involve moving furniture and heavy lifting)
  • Support artists in events (workshops/talks)

Volunteers will always be with a member of staff and out of pocket expenses will be provided. You do not need a completed DBS check to volunteer as a part of the festival.

We ask that you attend a short induction from 11am-1pm on Thursday 13th Feb at Yorkshire Dance where you will have the opportunity to meet the volunteer team and learn more about your role on the day. If you are unable to attend this date, please let us know in your enquiry form and we will arrange another time with you.

You will be provided with a festival t-shirt to wear on the day.

As a thank you, we offer all volunteers a ticket for a performance or workshop at the festival.

About Family Encounters

Encounters is a mini festival which takes place three times throughout the year. It aims to inspire, provoke and increase our collective insight and understanding into the most important topics of our times through dance. Each Encounters has a different thematic focus, however particular ingredients stay in place throughout the festivals, which include food, conversation, seeing work, workshops and talks.

The Family Encounters focusses on the relationship between children and adults, playfully asking us and our children to reflect on, explore, and re-imagine these relationships. The festival includes performances from Des Gestes Blancs, Dadodans, Four Hands, and an intergenerational work choreographed by TC Howard, as well as workshops led by Rachel Dean, Katy Hewison, Nisha Lall, Nii Kwartey Owoo, Des Gestes Blancs, and members of Yorkshire Dance’s very own Street Crew.
