Call for proposals: No Dress Code, Scratch Night
Friday 4th February 2022
No Dress Code is our informal scratch night which offers dance artists (who are no longer in full time education or training), the opportunity to showcase works in progress and gain an insight from an audience’s perspective. By works in progress we mean new work which has already undertaken research and development and is being structured into a performance. Artists will be able to ask the audience questions which will be displayed in the space, to gain feedback in a relaxed setting.
This evening aims to bring together independent choreographers and dance companies from across Yorkshire to showcase their work in a supportive environment. No Dress Code will be a relaxed atmosphere with the opportunity for artists to gain insight from an audience’s perspective.
We are looking for:
- Work or film created for a live audience
- Work that can be programmed into a studio or performance space
- Short new pieces, which have had little or no previous audience exposure, (or an excerpt from a longer work)
- Works in progress that have had at least two weeks development in a studio
Proposals should be for pieces that are:
- Between 5 – 15 minutes max in duration
- Technically simple and adaptable to quick turnarounds
- Self-supporting in terms of props/set/equipment
Yorkshire Dance will provide each dance artist with an honorarium of £125 for taking part in No Dress Code.
How to Apply:
Complete our online application form here.
Application deadline: Friday 3rd December, 9.00am.
We ask that you provide a video of the work you are applying with to give us a better sense of the piece you will present.
If you require this application in a specific format, or would like to submit an application in an alternative way (e.g. a written application), please email us: firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 0113 243 8765 and reference ‘No Dress Code application query’.
All proposals from those not in study will be considered by Yorkshire Dance. Short listing of work will be based on the strength of the artistic idea, the suitability for this particular event and for technical and logistical feasibility. You will be informed if you have been successful or not by Wednesday 8th December 2021. We will endeavour to offer feedback via email to unsuccessful applicants upon request.
