Residency
Who can apply for a residency:
We offer one or two weeks of studio space for dance artists who are researching and developing new work. All artists who live and work in Yorkshire or who have a strong commitment to the region, or the North, are eligible to apply.
We offer residencies for projects which reflect our artistic statement and which:
- Develop contemporary performance practice and the field of choreography and dance.
- Emphasise innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations
- Consider a strong and realistic connection with the public, audiences or participants and/or other partnership support

We regularly review applications and aim to contact you within two weeks.
We recommend that you apply at least 3 months ahead of your planned project activity. Occasionally our studio is available at short notice. We advertise last minute residency space through our social media channels and our artist newsletter. You can also book ad hoc discounted studio space online here.
Talk to us about your work before applying:
If you are applying for an Arts Council Project Grant or other funding and you wish to include your Yorkshire Dance residency in your application, please contact our Creative Projects Assistant, Tammy Tsang, before you submit.
We are keen to get to know you and learn more about your current practice and projects. If you choose you can arrange a meeting with our Artist Development team during your residency and we invite us to a sharing of your work.
Residency Costs and Terms & Conditions:
We offer one week of residency space free of charge for projects in that have not yet received funding (e.g. through Arts Council England).
If you apply for a residency and you have received project funding (e.g. through an Arts Council Project grant) we ask for a subsidised contribution of £470 per week. If you apply for a two week residency, we offer one week free of charge and we ask for a subsidised contribution of £470 for the second week. We ask that you book these two weeks consecutively where possible.
Once a residency is booked if you need to cancel or change your residency booking for any reason we ask that you to reapply. Your new residency application will be assessed on equal merit and dependent on availability of space.
