Residency
Who can apply for a residency:
1 or 2 weeks studio time is available at the Yorkshire Dance building in central Leeds for dance artists who are researching and developing new work. Artists who live and work in Yorkshire or have a strong commitment and connection to either the region, or the North can apply.
Yorkshire Dance is specifically interested in supporting residency applications, which reflect our artistic statement (that you can read here) and:
- Demonstrate an evident desire to develop contemporary performance practice and the field of choreography and dance
- Emphasise innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations
- Consider a strong and realistic connection with the public, audiences or participants and/or other partnership support
How to apply for a residency with us:
If you would like to apply for a residency with Yorkshire Dance, please fill in and submit the form below.
Applications submitted by the end of each calendar month will be discussed at the beginning of the following month. You will be contacted once a decision has been made on your application.
We recommend that you apply at least 3 months in advance of your planned project activity. On occasion we might have studio time available at short notice, which we will advertise through our social media channels.
Talk to us about your work before applying:
If you are applying to fund your project and want to include your residency at Yorkshire Dance in the application, please contact our Creative Projects Assistant, Darren Payne before including it in the funding bid.
We are always interested in getting to know you and learn more about your current practice and projects in development. You can arrange a meeting with a member of our Yorkshire Dance team while you are in residency, and we are always happy to come along to a sharing of your work.
Residency Costs and Terms & Conditions:
Residencies for projects that receive no other funding (e.g. through Arts Council England) can be offered one week of residency space free of charge, especially if this is part of an R & D project.
If you apply for the residency in conjunction with funding your projects (e.g. through an Arts Council Project grant), we ask for a subsidised contribution towards the space of £470/ week. If you seek studio space for a 2 week residency, Yorkshire Dance can offer one week free of charge and the second week with the subsidised contribution of £470. The two weeks must be taken consecutively in this scenario.
Once your offer is accepted and agreed on, any cancellation or changes thereafter will require you to re-apply. This will be assessed on equal merit and dependent on availability of space.
If you have any questions about the residency application process, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Darren Payne: darrenpayne@yorkshiredance.com
