About the workshop

This one-day, paid pilot workshop brings together hip hop dance artists to connect, exchange ideas and explore creative approaches to making movement-based work. This is a chance to move and make while exploring ways to shape artist development in the region. 

Artists who attend will receive a contribution of £75. Additional bursaries are available to support access needs. 

The session will be facilitated by Theophilus O. Bailey, Creative Associate at Just Us Dance Theatre. Theophilus is a passionate artist and facilitator committed to nurturing the next generation of movement creators. 

The workshop will take place at Yorkshire Dance in Leeds between 10am – 2pm on Saturday, 28 June.

What we’re looking for

This workshop is open to up to 10 artists based in the North.

We are seeking artists who are interested in moving together, talking and sharing ideas with other artists working within the context of hip hop dance. 

About the collaboration

This workshop is a new collaboration between Yorkshire Dance and Just Us Dance Theatre.  

We’re creating a space for hip hop dance artists in Leeds and the wider North to come together, share experiences and reflect on what artistic development and support in the region could look like.  

Just Us Labs is a new artistic development initiative by Just Us Dance Theatre designed to support dance artists through the creation process. It focuses on deepening artistic expression and providing tools to develop dynamic, context-rich and innovative work for both theatre and outdoor settings. 

This initial session with Yorkshire Dance is a soft-touch introduction — a chance to meet, talk, and start imagining the possibilities together.

Selection Process:

Joseph Toonga (Artistic Director, Just Us Dance Theatre) and Hannah Robertshaw (Creative Director, Yorkshire Dance) will shortlist applicants. We aim to notify selected artists by Friday, 6 June 2025.
