Sketch is an ongoing development opportunity for dance makers with an interest in developing a new dance idea with a focus on dramaturgical practice.
International dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers has worked with the selected artists, and has led two evenings of live-workshopped performances to sold-out audiences. Sketch invests in the dramaturgical practice of a community of artists by inviting observers to work alongside commissioned artists, each using different approaches and aesthetics.
Artists and companies taking part in the third Sketch programme, in 2016-2017, are Christopher Owen, Simone Kenyon & Neil Callaghan and Sardoville.
Ella Mesma and Hannah Buckley received bursaries to make work and take part in Sketch 2 in 2015.
Yorkshire Dance chose six artists to take part in Sketch between September 2014 and February 2015: Jamaal Burkmar, Gavin Coward, Non-Applicables (Sian Myers & Fenella Ryan), Carlos Pons Guerra, Grace Surman and Sophie Unwin.
