What happens when opposing fronts sweep across the shifting landscape of the gendered body?
Can we intervene in newly forming identities?
Or must we surrender to their unpredictability?

“Comical and bizarrely fetching”
Josephine Leask, The Independent
(‘That Was The Time I Stopped’ with Valentina Golfieri)

Amy Bell dances and talks her way through this witty and dream-like solo performance, riding the blustery winds of aspiration; all the while hoping her umbrella doesn’t get turned inside out.

Amy tackles the all too human longings and frustrations of transformation whilst trying to read the forecast; wondering how we will know when we’ve arrived.

Immersed in a live digital soundscape by composer Jamie McCarthy with dramaturgy and animation from visual artist Hetain Patel.

The evening will feature a post-show conversation led by legendary dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers.

“Brave, captivating, subtly subversive” Audience response, for TOMBO(Y)LA

Amy Bell is a dance artist whose work embraces performing, making, teaching, writing, dramaturgy and curation. Her installation piece TOMBO(Y)LA investigates unruly gender identities through conversation and body. With Valentina Golfieri she made a series of darkly absurd and critically acclaimed duets. Amy’s performance work comprises theatrical, installation and site-sensitive projects for a range of artists in the UK and Italy, including Tino Sehgal, Lea Anderson, Maresa von Stockert, Alessandro Sciarroni and Chiara Frigo. She has curated experimental events for Rambert and Yorkshire Dance and will present Splayed, a festival of disruptive femininities she has curated for The Place in May/June 2018.
