One Last Dance – An Chéad Damhsa
Instant Dissidence
5.30pm
Following the Brexit vote, artist Rita Marcalo is leaving.
One Last Dance is Rita’s final love letter to the UK – a two-month perambulating dance between Guildford (where she lived when she first arrived here in 1994) and Cloughjordan (the Irish village she’s moving to).
As she dances across the UK she will stay with other EU citizens, who will choreograph, walk and dance part of the way with her. Each performance of One Last Dance will feature all the sections created up to that point, and the whole work will be captured in a film.
One Last Dance – An Chéad Damhsa is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Capacity is limited to 80. Access by wristband only, issued free from 4.00pm. First come first served.
MESH
Vanessa Grasse
6.00pm | 8.00pm
Starting on Briggate, a cast of ten professional dancers and a group of local residents weave through the city’s streets and public spaces, inviting audiences and passers-by to join in the making of a public ritual of togetherness.
MESH explores how participatory choreography for a large group can bring people together.

We are delighted to host three new dance works by the extraordinary students of Leeds’ dance conservatoire. All three will be performed at each of the three performance slots.
Sara Ribeiro & Nuno Mesquita: Sara is co-director and co-founder of That Ribeiro company, a physical theatre company based in Leeds, who recently received ACE funding to further develop their work ‘Memories’.
Akshay Sharma: a graduate of NSCD, whose recent work has explored the manual labour demands and low wages of workers in India.
Kasia Witek: Kasia’s mindful and sensitive contemporary dance and music work brings people together through physicality, intimacy and touch, all inspired by yoga practices and philosophy.
