On Behalf of Rachel Clarke Dance Company, Alexandra Mettam will be teaching a FREE open class, which will be taking place whilst the company are in residence at Yorkshire Dance.
Alexandra is a Sheffield based Contemporary dance artist involved within performing, choreographing and teaching across the Yorkshire region. Alex graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a BA Hons Dance degree. Here she was trained in Contemporary Dance and Somatic Practices, Choreographic Methodologies and Academic Analysis of Contemporary Practice.
She has been working on increasing dance opportunities within her home town of Sheffield. This has involved putting on a successful scratch night for emerging artists, outreach in Sheffield secondary schools and choreographing and performing as part of Sheffield’s ‘Let’s talk about sex’ festival. She has involvement in various youth dance projects across West Yorkshire working programmes such as Phoenix Dance Theatre and Yorkshire dances Saturday Superstars.
Alexandra has choreographed and performed for numerous platforms including, Hull dance prize, Northern art and Let’s talk about sex festival. Meanwhile working on ongoing projects for companies and choreographers such as, Red ladder Theatre ‘Damned United’ and Rachel Clarke and Hayley Grahams ACE funded project ‘Memory Box’. All spanning across the Yorkshire and Humberside region. Alexandra continues to develop as a Contemporary Dance artist by proceeding her choreographic plans for upcoming projects in European festivals and more local events.
‘A released based Contemporary technique class exploring fluidity and groove, focusing on footwork and floor work with an Urban influence.’
