About Company of People
Company of People are an intergenerational community performance company, creating high quality dance work.
The group is rooted in the communities of Chapeltown and Harehills. The work of the company is shaped by its members and celebrates humanity and personal stories, histories and identities.
Weekly dance sessions in Harehills and Chapeltown
Are you keen to meet people in your community and have fun? Join our FREE Company of People weekly dance sessions. No previous dance experience required.
Sessions open to all:
St Aidan’s Community Hall, Elford Place West, LS8 5QD
Mondays 1-2pm, 22 Sep – 1 Dec (half term 27 Oct)
Sessions for women and girls with Shantona Women’s Centre:
Connect Housing, Roundhay Road, LS8 5AN
Wednesdays 5.30-6.30pm, 24 Sep – 26 Nov (half term 29 Oct)

Company of People creative sessions
Yorkshire Dance warmly welcome you to join Company of People – a dance company for people of all ages and backgrounds based in Chapeltown & Harehills. Free, fun, sociable sessions for people interested in creating choreography and performing in a new dance work.
Sessions run 10am-4pm on certain Sundays at Yorkshire Dance.
Dates: 21 Sep, 12 & 26 Oct, 9, *23 & *30 Nov, 1 & 15 Feb, *1, *8 & *22 Mar
*Please attend the starred sessions if you wish to perform on 28 & 29 March.

Our previous work
In 2022 Company of People performed their first work, ‘In Your Shoes’ to a sold out audience at Leeds Playhouse as part of Yorkshire Dance’s Ageless Festival. In Your Shoes was co-created with TC Howard. The Company also performed at Yorkshire Dance’s 40th birthday in October 2022. Watch a short video about the group below.
In summer 2023 Company of People returned to the stage as part of a Double Bill at Encounters Dancing in Your Shoes Festival with their new work ‘Epic Everyday’ co-created with TC Howard. The Company toured Epic Everyday to Gender Bender festival in Italy and Theaterfestival Boulevard in the Netherlands in 2023.
In 2024 Company of People worked with Fevered Sleep to co-create a durational work, ‘How to change the World by Doing Nothing’ which was performed in Leeds Art Gallery as part of Ageless 2024.
Company of People was established in 2021 thanks to funding from Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Creative Europe. How to Change the World by Doing Nothing was kindly supported by the Keith Howard Foundation in 2024.
The project is currently funded by West Yorkshire Safer Communities.
