Access: Artists we support

Access to Artist Development services
- We encourage artists with access needs to send us an access rider. If you have never created an access rider before Unlimited provide clear guidance and templates on access riders.
- We also listen to artists’ working preferences and needs. Resources like Manual of Me and The Whole Picture Toolkit can be adapted for dance artists.
- We provide an easy-read call out for all our artist development services.
- We can make adjustments, for example, adjusting the time and nature of meetings, inviting people for a pre-visit if they are new to the Yorkshire Dance building.
- We regularly hold full-staff training sessions around access needs and identity. For example recent training has included Dementia Friends Training, Trans Awareness Training, Unlimited training on access and Anti-Racism Training.
What we won’t do:
- We won’t discriminate against anyone.
- We won’t share private information (e.g. about access needs) without your consent.
- We won’t make assumptions about your access requirements.
- We won’t be defensive if you raise an area of concern.
About our Building
- There are drop off and pick up points just outside (10 metres from the door) Yorkshire Dance.
- There is step free access to the building and lifts to all floors. When you arrive take the lift up one floor to our welcome desk.
- Our door is automatic with two bells at different heights. When you arrive ring the bell and we will let you in. If you require assistance please ask when you ring the bell and a member of staff will come down to help.
- We have at least one accessible toilet for wheelchair users on every floor of our building. Accessible toilets do not require a code or key.
- We encourage all artists to use the toilets and changing rooms which best align with their gender identity or expression.
- We have gender neutral toilets on each floor of our building.
- We have baby changing facilities in our changing rooms.
- We can often provide a private room to feed your baby, if you’d prefer this.
- We can provide a quiet prayer space. Just ask.
- Our artist green rooms are accessible for wheelchair users.
- We have a wellbeing space in South Space on the second floor, available for any building users.
- We always have First Aid assistance on site, in case of emergency. We have a defibrillator onsite.
- We welcome assistance dogs and can provide water if they are thirsty! A green space is available 150ft/ 45m (one minute walk) away from the building.
- We have a free artist co-working space available for any independent artists to use between Monday – Saturday 9.00am – 5.00pm.
