Artist Advisory Group
The Artist Advisory Group at Yorkshire dance is a subcommittee of the Board of Directors that includes a number of freelance artists. There are always 2 independent artist on the Yorkshire Dance Board and they attend the Advisory Group and feed back to the Board the same way that other subcommittees do. The group has been operating since 2008 and reshaped early 2021.
Purpose
The purpose of the group is to amplify the voice of a diverse group of independent artist in the programming and decision making at Yorkshire Dance with the aim of keeping these as informed and relevant as possible. Especially, the group has time and space for deeper reflection than there is time for during Board meetings. The nature of the group allows for a diversity of perspectives across dance-background, career-phase, age, gender and ethnicity.
Role
The Artist Advisory Group’s main role is to be a critical friend and sounding board to some of the senior creative programming team at Yorkshire Dance.

How does it work?
- We meet three times a year, in similar patterns to the main Board. Meetings are set by doodle poll facilitating as many people as possible to attend.
- The agenda, usually prepared by the Creative Director, involves a reflection on previous activity and input in planning of new artistic events or relevant topics facing the organisation.
- Artists bring their individual perspectives, questions and experiences which they enjoy sharing and testing with other artists. They do not represent anything other than themselves.
- Artist are paid to attend.
