Dance in the North is a consortium of dance organisations and venues who are committed to dance artist development and programming in the North of England.

This year the network are excited to announce the launch of a brand new pilot scheme offering a £12,500 co-commission for an artist or company based in the North of England. The scheme will support the development of a new dance performance to include public work-in-progress showings at scratch nights throughout 2026-27 and presentation of the new work once it is fully produced.

The co-commission is supported by Yorkshire Dance, Cheshire Dance, Lancaster Arts, Dance City, Lowry. The wider Dance in the North partnership will support the successful artist/company with advocacy and relationship development.

The artists or company selected for the Dance in the North Co-Commission will not only benefit from the £12,500 but also from scratch night opportunities, residencies, mentoring and dramaturgy and advice on fundraising, production, access and sustainability.

The launch of this new scheme is testament to the collaboration and partnership working of the Dance in the North Network and aims to shift the scale and ambition of dance production in the North of England.
