Saturday Superstars Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions
1. I’m not sure which class is appropriate for my child?
All our classes have a suggested age range however these are only guidance. If you feel your child may fit better in a different class, give us a call on 0113 243 8765 or email sss@yorkshiredance.com and we can advise you.
2. Is there a Saturday Superstars uniform?
We have no set uniform, and we encourage your child to come in clothing they feel comfortable wearing and they can move easily in. Dance shoes are not essential and trainers or bare feet are appropriate in all our classes.
We also run a clothing exchange where families can donate old clothing and shoes. These items are available in our foyer each Saturday.
3. Can I come into the class with my child?
For safeguarding reasons and to help your child settle, we do not allow parents and guardians into the class. Our Saturday Superstars artists collect the children from the foyer and take them up to the studio and they come back down together once the class has finished.
Our Parents & Tots session (0-4) is a great option if you have a little one who doesn’t feel quite confident enough yet to join a class on their own.
4. Are there opportunities for my child to perform?
In the last week of term each class takes part in an informal sharing which is open to family and friends. If your child is nervous about performing they don’t have to join in. Our Street Crew, TEMPO, take part in external performances throughout the year. Usually this is one performance per term in a location around Leeds. For example, TEMPO have previously performed in FRESH our regional youth dance platform, at Beeston Festival and at Making Moves at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
5. My child isn’t potty trained can they still join?
If your child isn’t potty trained we ask that you remain in our foyer during your child’s class. If your child needs a nappy change or support to use a potty our Saturday team will come and get you.
6. My child has additional needs is Saturday Superstars suitable for them?
We work with families and young people to make our Saturday programme as inclusive and accessible as possible. In 2023 we were awarded a SCOPE Inclusivity Award. We work with artists who are experienced in supporting young people with a range of different needs including neurodiversity, disability and young people adopted from care.
If you would like to discuss your child’s needs in more detail please get in touch with Chloe who can advise on 0113 243 8765 or sss@yorkshiredance.com.
