It has been just over a month since our new Executive Director, Bhuvan Sharma, joined us here at Yorkshire Dance. With 15 years of experience, Bhuvan has brought a unique skill set to Yorkshire Dance, with experience as a performing artist, dance teacher and event manager, as well as having an MBA from Cass Business School and having managed business operations and group strategies across UK, USA, Canada, Australia, UAE and India for a global dance education and performing arts company.

Bhuvan has now been with us in Leeds for just over a month, and below are his reflections on joining Yorkshire Dance:

It’s been over a month since I joined Yorkshire Dance. As I sit in the LNER train with my luggage ready to make the trip up north to my new apartment in Leeds, I couldn’t be more excited and happier about my decision to join the organisation.

The last few weeks have flown by in meeting the team and industry friends and colleagues virtually. From my interactions, what stood out was a vision and passion amongst the team to be creative and use dance as a tool to spread happiness across the community. Providing young people a platform through Yorkshire Dance’s participation in Kickstarter and other internship programs, the many meetings regarding climate change and our part in it, shows how invested our team is in realising the need to shape tomorrow through our actions today, and I cannot wait to play my part in helping its cause in a more active capacity.

The last year has seen us experience a whirlwind of emotions, but has also taught us to be humble, patient and learn new skills.  As we navigate getting out of our houses safely, relearn the art of hugging and rejoice in sitting indoors for leisure, our endeavour at Yorkshire Dance will be to welcome the people of Yorkshire into our space with the same love and affection, either in-person or digitally.

I cannot wait to start my new chapter in Leeds, and look forward to the many coffees with new friends, walks in the countryside and discovering all this beautiful region has to offer.
