Since 2019, Dutch-German choreographer Katja Heitmann has been building an archive for human movement: Motus Mori. Working with a growing group of movement-archivists, she collects and preserves movements from people of all ages, bodies and backgrounds.
In 2023 Katja travelled to Leeds to create her latest work Motus Mori: CORPUS, a performance-ritual created with a group of people from Leeds aged 20 to 86. The work was created during a two week residency at Yorkshire Dance and was performed at Leeds Art Gallery in December.
Following this collaboration with Leeds Arts Gallery and Katja Heitmann in 2023, we supported members of the Leeds community cast to travel to ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands to restage Motus Mori:CORPUS at Boulevard Festival in July 2024. Yorkshire Dance’s Creative Projects Producer, Kirsty Redhead, accompanied the group on a ten-day trip, which saw sold-out performances to local audiences.
The work was captured by professional photographer Hanneke Wetzer.
“Hanneke captured very beautifully the work and each of you, showing your strong dedication and focus in the performance. I hope it is a nice memory for you, looking back on a very special and wonderful time.” – Katja Heitmann
