“You’re moving your body and enjoying yourself” | Hardeep’s Story
Thu 15 May 2025Part of: Dancing Together

Hardeep and her daughter attended our Dancing Together sessions in early 2025 for people with dementia.
Hardeep is a founding member of the Hamari Yaadin Dementia Café, a space for people living with dementia to come together and support each other. She has always loved music and dance.
“I used to dance a lot when I was young, mostly traditional folk dance. I did dance before but my balance is so bad, I fall easily. In the past, I was playing harmonium and singing.”
Daughter Kiran attends with Hardeep but sometimes takes the opportunity for a break knowing her mum enjoys the sessions.
“There’s an improvement in mood in the room – a happier vibe. Mum enjoys the dancing. It’s uplifting. When I ask Mum ‘What are you doing?’ she says ‘Dance’ – but in a positive way”.
They both laugh as Kiran explains: “It keeps us active rather than sitting too much. There’s movement, wellbeing, social company – it ticks all the boxes.”
And Hardeep agrees: “It’s really nice. Nice and you’re moving your body, and enjoying yourself. The music is nice.”
