Thu 25 November 2021Part of: Dance On
Sophie Simpson is one of the brilliant dancers that leads sessions through the Dance On programme. Get to know more about Sophie and her involvement with Dance On!
When did you start leading the Dance On sessions? How many groups do you currently lead with Dance On?
I was initially introduced to the Dance On Programme in February 2019, although due to my busy schedule I didn’t take on my first session until later that year. My first session was delivered on October 1st 2019 – Older People’s Day which linked great with the overall outcome of the project.
I now currently lead 3 Dance On groups.
What has the programme meant to you since being involved?
Being involved in this project has given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of people from different cultures. I love that it has extended my knowledge of working out in the community and the programme ties in with the values that i hold within my own business. It means a great deal to me to have a hand in improving the health & wellbeing of older people through dance across Yorkshire. I feel extremely happy to be able to empower and inspire older peoples confidence and give them a safe space to reignite their passion for dance.
What is your favourite thing about being a Dance On artist?
I love that every group is diverse and not one day is the same. It’s evident that the programme was needed and that it is clearly making a positive impact on the lives of every participant. I’m a people person and one of my favourite things is meeting and connecting with new people and making them smile as they dance. Being a Dance On artist is giving me more opportunities to share my passion with others.
