Yorkshire Dance and Jerwood Arts are looking to invest in three exceptionally talented dance artists or companies based in the north of England through a 30-month artist development opportunity.

The selected artists will be supported to develop two new works each, and offered extensive opportunities to develop the sustainability of their careers through tailored wrap-around support. Applications from female artists and female-led companies will be particularly welcomed.

Jerwood Arts | Yorkshire Dance for Art’s Sake will support artists with a £7,000 co-commissioning fee staggered over the project period, enabling artists to start R&D and provide match-funding to attract additional investment. The artists will also receive up to 12 weeks of studio space to develop work, extensive fundraising, dramaturgical, producing & marketing support from Yorkshire Dance, performance opportunities and a budget for career development opportunities, filming and photography.

The project is aimed at artists who graduated, or completed equivalent training, up to ten years ago, and who have reached a critical moment in their career that requires this kind of support to maximise their potential and propel them into the next phase of their development.

Selection will take into account evidence of exceptional talent in the field and evidence of a hunger to make work for an audience and the originality and strength of the initial artistic idea artists would like to explore with Yorkshire Dance.

Applications are now open, and can be made through Yorkshire Dance’s website, here:
yorkshiredance.com/opportunity/jerwood-arts-yorkshire-dance-for-arts-sake

The deadline for applications is Monday 29 April at 10.00am.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a two-day selection and professional development workshop with renowned Dutch dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 May.

The programme will begin in June.

Dance artists and companies who are interested in applying are welcome to phone Tanya Steinhauser at Yorkshire Dance for an informal conversation about the project, on 0113 243 9867.
