Into The Light at LGBT50 gets lift off
Mon 8 May 2017Part of: Into the Light at LGBT50 at Hull City of Culture | 2017

Last month the production of the dance work Into The Light reached a new phase when Gary Clarke selected the creative team and the first workshops were held in Hull.
Into The Light is a new work created for the celebration of the 50 year anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK as part of the Hull 2017 City of Culture programme. The new work will be performed by a mixed cast of professional and non-professional dancers at the tea party on Victoria Square on Saturday 29 July, hosted by Duckie.
Hull’s Victoria Square will be transformed by designer Lucy Sierra; and Gary is joined by costume designer Ryan Laight who is already doing some brilliant research in to 50 years of queer fashion in the UK. There will be live music on the square by Martin Hughes amongst other acts.
During the first workshop heaps of fun was had under the careful guidance of Gary’s long term collaborator T.C. Howard. The first people even signed up to perform in the final work!
We hope to be meeting many more residents from Hull and beyond in the next few weeks, either from the LGBT* community or friendly to it!
Dates of forthcoming workshops at Victoria Dock Village Hall, HU9 1TS:
Friday 19 May, 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Friday 2 June, 6.00pm – 8.00pm
