About Into the Light at LGBT50 at Hull City of Culture | 2017
We’re very excited to have contributed a new dance work to Hull UK City of Culture 2017, celebrating 50 years since the start of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK.
As part of LGBT 50, a week-long programme of LGBT+ events taking place from 22 to 29 July in partnership with Pride in Hull, we joined the lively Duckie Summer Tea Party in Queen Victoria Square, a thrilling afternoon of dance, surprise performances, tea, cake and much more.
The party featured Into the Light, a specially commissioned Yorkshire Dance production by choreographer Gary Clarke, featuring 42 non-professional performers from among Hull and the East Riding’s LGBT+ community and its friends, working with 8 professional dancers – a 50-strong cast for the 50th anniversary.
It has been an extraordinary journey for the company. All ages and all genders were represented, and the two performances were seen by many thousands of people.
