Margot’s Story

Margot is 96 and has attended Dance On since it began in 2018.

“I thought I’d, I’d just try Dance On because I used to go sequence dancing a lot. And of course it fell through, no one else wanted to take it on. And I didn’t want to be sat at home.

So I thought, I’ll try Dance On and see how it goes. And it just stemmed off from there.”

Margot quickly warmed to the Dance On teachers and participants:

“Mary’s good. Really good, she is.  And if there’s any steps that you can’t do, she’ll give you an alternative, whether you’re stood or sat down. So she makes it pleasurable, we have a laugh.

We do have some fun. We all say little comments, you know, and that’s us all giggling. It’s nice and sociable, you know, and it’s like a little family actually.

As well as weekly dance sessions Margot has taken part in the different social events offered through Dance On. In April she performed in Boogie Wonderland, a celebration of Disco alongside hundreds of other older adults from across Leeds.

“I let my hair down. I know it’s only short, but I let it down! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m hoping to go to the next one.

The events are just good company and it’s just being sociable. You know, meeting up with different people. It keeps you active.”

Shared experiences and having fun are needed more than ever at the moment. That’s why we’re asking you to help us raise £1,000 to bring the hundreds of older adults, like Margot, who attend our Dance On classes together in 2024 for 3 social and performance events.
