Yorkshire Dance are looking for four independent artists, based in Yorkshire or the North, to join the Artist Advisory Group for a two year term from April 2025-March 2027.

Established in 2008 the Artist Advisory Group advocate on behalf of freelance artists to shape and evaluate Yorkshire Dance’s programmes. In the past few years the group have been responsible for establishing our Annual Artist Gathering, developing our working with freelancers policy and the introduction of our new artist co-working space.

This is a paid position and would suit artists who have an interest in the wider dance sector beyond their own work and are passionate about developing the regional and national dance ecology. Current Artist Advisory Group member, Zoe Katsilerou explains:

“Being part of the Artist Advisory group has offered opportunities for meaningful conversations between us and Yorkshire Dance. These have been rooted in our experiences as freelancers with regards to the sector and the organisation itself, and on developing pathways for growing their support for freelancers. I have felt honesty, trust, listening and openness from all the staff and a willingness to take risks.

The Artist Advisory meetings are run with care. Through these meetings, my appreciation for the work Yorkshire Dance does within our communities has grown, and I have seen aspects of their work that I had not seen/experienced before.

The Artist Advisory group has been a valuable opportunity to grow my confidence in speaking with similar organisations about my experiences as a freelancer in West Yorkshire. It has helped me to strengthen my relationships with the organisation and the other dancers involved, and has offered a space for reflection and growth for me personally as a practitioner.”
